The Awesome Nikon D5100 Digital Camera
The first thing I noticed about the Nikon D5100 was the user-friendly ergonomics. It felt right at home in my hands.
Then I noticed the incredible photographic and video capabilities. I can do a lot with this camera.
I can create full HD movies with effects and different angles using the swivel Vari-Angle feature. When I’m finished recording, I press a button and upload to my computer with a few clicks.
Of course, I can always press the playback button and review the movie in the LCD monitor.
I can also choose to view:
1. Waist level shots
2. Ground level shots
3. Overhead shots
The HDR is the first in-camera HDR mode for any Nikon D-SLR
The HDR is short for High Dynamic Range which is one of the best features because it allows you to record in bright sunlight or in the shadows. Or both! The way the camera accomplishes this is by joining two exposures at the same time.

Using the Effects Mode
As I mentioned earlier the effects mode on the D5100 is brilliant. I can use the Night Vision feature to film because the effects mode captures images that are hard to see with your eyes while you’re recording.
After watching a playback I noticed things that I didn’t notice while I was filming.
The other features are:
1. High Key
2. Low Key
3. Miniature Effect
4. Color Sketch
The only other effects mode I tried was the Miniature Effect and that just makes everything look smaller. The camera managed to retain the aspect ratio and produced a high quality professional shot. While it was fun it’s not something that I would use for what I do.
I’m more into creating HD movies with sound to post on YouTube and Facebook and on my web site.
The Light Sensitivity Uses:
· ISO auto
· ISO 12800
· ISO 25600
· ISO 100-6400
And Can also be found on more than nine other models that I looked at including the:
· Nikon D90
· Nikon D700
Both the D90 and D700 are great cameras but I prefer the D5100 because of the quick auto focus that permits you to film as you’re moving without destroying the quality of the film. This is possible because of the faster shutter speeds.
What produces the high quality is the Nikon D-SLR technology that includes, 6.2MP DX-format, CMOS sensor and the EXPEED 2 image processing engine.
11-point AF system
The D5100’s 11-point AF system works with the Scene Recognition System to capture shots and maintain the focus. It captures images at about 4 frames per second which is extremely fast.
Whether you're a professional or a beginner like me, this camera will enable you to create high quality stills and movies. I'm still learning to use all of the features but it's not that hard to learn because of the user-friendliness.
Here are some movie setting specs.
